The backlash has continued into late May and early June 2023 when it comes to how employees are treated at Crumbl locations throughout the country. Most of this conversation is on Reddit and the latest discussion is on the owner or franchise partner adjusting the number of hours worked to not allow for overtime. From our sources, we have heard of numerous cases in which employees, especially minors, are seeing their hours adjusted to a lower amount. As discussed in our article about employees getting hours cut, franchise partners are seeing slower sales for the first time, well, ever. Many have no idea what to do as they have never owned a business and they have been blessed to open doors and customers come in droves. That is likely not happening in the summer of 2023.
After the major labor law case against Crumbl, many, many franchise partners are making certain they adhere to their state’s labor laws, even if this means giving employees less hours, adding lunch breaks when they were not taken or shortening shifts. Unfortunately, most employees do not notice this because it is only a few minutes here and a few minutes there. The issue lies if hundreds of stores are adjusting hours and it is starting to become noticed by most of the hourly employees. Hours worked should be hours paid. If a store breaks state labor laws, they should be held accountable.
Hopefully, Crumbl corporate cleans up this issue, but it will be extremely difficult as each store runs their own payroll through their own system.
